Healing Fire Island is about an anesthesiologist who sails to Fire Island to rescue an anesthesia department in the tropics.  She brings her boyfriend and her cat along for the ride for adventures on her 50 foot sloop BreakAway.  They find romance on the island and make lifelong friends while they explore the wonderful bays and anchorages they discover.

The clinic has its own set of issues, which Dr. RocksAnn Riggs manages to work through, and she will offer the reader a detailed review of the daily routine that an anesthesiologist handles in the clinic.  The reader will learn about giving and getting anesthesia, the stresses and issues that doctors and nurses work through in the clinic and the operating room, and problems and problem solving in the operating room and recovery room.  Rocks discusses fictional cases based on factual cases in an entertaining fashion, and this medical thriller takes place in paradise.  Rocks is a sailor living aboard a sailboat, and when she is not working, she goes out sailing, to keep the reader balanced and relaxed.

Rocks’ friends enjoy sailing and bring her into a top-secret jewelry ring that will prove extremely lucrative, however dangerous, and this provides high level suspense  in the story.  Meanwhile, Rocks’ boyfriend Luke has a dalliance with a Latina named Sophia while on a business trip to Miami, and this gives Rocks an excuse to accept an invitation from a wildly successful local attorney.  Fire Island Clinic is a hotbed for situations, in that the island’s most prestigious citizens either work there or have their surgeries or consultations there.  Indeed, Rocks began to discover that she would need to ‘manage’ a couple of difficult personalities in the clinic.

Imagine you are sitting on the runway, waiting to take off to your holiday destination. As you begin to taxi the pilot announces that there is an engine warning light flashing, but that in his experience this almost always amounts to nothing and both him and co-pilot have made a pragmatic decision to proceed, given that the flight was already running late.
